About David
I live in New England—specifically, Rhode Island—but my formative years were all spent in California—specifically, the San Francisco Bay area. I went to good schools, but I was also right there for the Summer of Love, and for the anti-war protest movement that arose out of that.
So I got the proper education, but not entirely the proper indoctrination. Twenty-plus years of regular TM practice have also kept me just slightly to one side of the main stream when it comes to thinking about most things.
I was drawn to the then-emerging phenomenon of personal computers and programming, and found my way into a career mostly centered around information technology for law firms—specifically, litigation technology. It’s a big business. It paid the bills. It also exposed me to a large amount of corporate and legal communication. This included on the one hand lots of corporate presentations—mostly PowerPoint. Mostly in need of improvement.
And on the other hand, there was the world of actual legal communication—pleadings, briefs, civil code, opinions—which if nothing else demanded exquisite levels of care and precision in language. And punctuation.
Along the way I managed to marry and became the father of two lovely daughters who both grew up to marry Irish husbands and now live minutes from each other in Dublin, Ireland. Again, go figure. I recently became a grandfather—to a beguiling lass who will start out in life with a leg up: two passports. When I have spare time, I cycle—first on the road, now more and more on gravel and dirt.
Late in the game I developed an interest in the corporate structure itself, and what needed to be done about that. I am a vocal advocate for the proliferation of worker-owned businesses, and something called Participatory Economics, about which I intend to write—a lot.
In the meantime, I have also written a fair amount about my experiences with a particular form of trauma therapy: EMDR.
